The Problem:

Wind-driven embers are one of the leading causes of home ignition during wildfires. Many conventional ventilation products were designed primarily for airflow—not ember resistance.

They often incorporate plastic components, oversized openings, lower-grade metal screens, or

a combination of these features that can allow embers to enter attics, crawl spaces, and other

concealed spaces where fires can ignite unnoticed.

As wildfire risk continues to increase, building codes throughout many western U.S. states have

adopted requirements for ember-resistant ventilation. One recognized prescriptive method of

protecting many ventilation openings is the use of noncombustible, corrosion-resistant metal mesh with openings no larger than 1/8 inch. FireTek™ products are designed to help support these requirements where applicable while also aligning with the principles of the Insurance

Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) Wildfire Prepared Home™ program.
